More Beadboard Installed

With the changes in the window openings complete I can continue the insulation and beadboard in the Main Salon and make my way down into the Galley and berth spaces. Here's a picture of the original galley looking up into the salon for comparison. Notice that there is only enough room for 1 overhead cabinet in the original design.
Also the stairs are against this wall. We have moved those to the center.

Here's another view of the original design showing the limited cabinet and counter area.

Now here's a picture looking up from the galley level to the salon. Notice that stairs are in the
center and we will have room for more counter and wall cabinets with the changes we made
in the window opening. (See previous post)

A view looking down into the galley from salon.

Here's a 3D plan of the galley. We will gain counter space and cabinet space with changing of
the window and moving the stairs. The program we used to design the galley is called the
"IKEA Home Planner" You can download it from the IKEA website.

I was able to finish the beadboard around the back side of the house and here are a couple pictures
of that for you.

So there we are. The blog is up to date. I haven't been able to work on the boat for a few weeks
because of other responsibilities and the problems I've been having with the old ticker. Hopefully
they can get the problem under control so work can progress and we can get this beast into
the water for some floating adventures.

Hang to the riggins!!!

I bought a '72 Gibson 36' in July, 2008 down here in Louisiana. I am doing some of the same things you are doing. So far I have gutted her, put in new floors (new joists, 3/4" treated plywood and 3/4" tounge and groove topped by vinyl/wood flooring), put beaded bosrd in the entire cabin, replaced the cabinets with oak and a counter top running the length of the galley, re-wired entire boat with new DC and panels and replaced the entire console. We are trimming out right now and replacing the electronics. We did the whole boat in beaded board, knotty cypress and red oak. We should finish the interior wood work this week end and move on to replacing the decks. This has been a lot of work, bu I think the end result will be worth it.

I am very envious that you are so far along in your rebuild. I'd love to see some pictures. Send them to wade@musbenice.com if you get a chance.
What did you do with your engines and generator? I am also curious as to what sort of a plumbing system you use. Is it the original system or did you replace that as well? Any and all input is greatly appreciated.
      Keep in touch,

I was lucky. When I bought the boat in July the engine ran (350' Chevy). We have since bought (not yet installed) new fuel tanks and a new distributor. The generator was being rebuilt, but I'm thinking of replacing it with one with an electric starter and running the fuel from the fuel tank.

The MSD is a Raritan Electrisan. We are still trying to make it work, but we are real close. This weekend we are supposed to test it again. Luckily I have one son that is a plumber, one who is an electrician, and one who have experience with fiberglass. We have re-run all the water lines and I was able to save the fresh water tank, but I had to replace the pump and kitchen sink.

I'll send you some pictures of where I started and where we are after Saturday (when the crew comes back out)

Now I am also envious of your crew. I can't wait to see the pics.

How can you be jealous of a crew when you have the entire crew from Gilligan's Island( though Goldthwaity as they may be)at your disposal??? A plumber , an electrician and a glass man---Oh how you covet this man's offspring. In your crew there is the Captain Fix-it swiss army knife brother, the Great Tarpdini, galley gal Mrs Howell,Mary -Ann who will cure your autism, and The mad Spitter We are aware one "is not as competent as he used to was" but we are quite entertaining as the ship goes down. We can turn the world on with our smiles---oh no sorry wrong show
